Máximo Perrone Seals Permanent Move to Como from Manchester City

Máximo Perrone, a midfielder from Argentina, has joined Como in Italy permanently. The reported fee is €13 million, and he has signed a contract until June 2029.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 22-year-old was on loan at Como last season, where he impressed manager Cesc Fabregas with his energy and football intelligence. Despite missing time due to injuries, he played 26 matches and provided three assists as Como ended their first season back in Serie A in 10th. After an impressive loan stint, Como quickly secured Perrone‘s services from Manchester City on a long-term contract. The Cityzens have a buyback clause in the contract, as well as a 30% sell-on fee if Como sells him in the future.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Perrone joined Manchester City from Velez Sarsfield in January 2023 but struggled for regular playing opportunities, making just two appearances for a total of 25 minutes of action. He was, however, part of City’s squad that won a historic treble in 2023. He spent the following season on loan at Las Palmas, playing 30 times in La Liga, and then shone in Italy last year. This transfer is viewed as a logical next step in Perrone’s development, giving him consistent playing time in one of Europe’s five major leagues and helping Como become a stable force in Serie A.

WHAT LIES AHEAD?

Como’s new season begins on August 24 at home against Lazio. They ended last season 10th in the table, clear of the relegation zone but also far from European qualification, which seems to be this season’s goal. With Perrone now on board permanently, head coach Cesc Fabregas will hope to build on last season’s solid finish and push for a place in the top half of the table. For Perrone, this move provides a platform for him to continue developing his reputation in Italy and show he can be an important player in Serie A.
