Olympique Marseille Near €35m Deal for Feyenoord’s Igor Paixão

Olympique Marseille are close to signing Igor Paixão from Feyenoord. They are negotiating a transfer fee of more than €30 million, which satisfies the Dutch club’s demands for the Brazilian attacker.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Marseille have made an improved offer for Feyenoord’s Igor Paixão. They are nearing a transfer that could total €35 million when including bonuses.

The 25-year-old striker, who joined Feyenoord from Coritiba in 2022, is one of the Dutch club’s most significant players. Over his time in Rotterdam, he has played 129 games, scored 39 goals, and provided 29 assists, becoming a reliable attacking force.

Marseille lost Luis Henrique to Inter Milan earlier this transfer window. They see Paixão as a valuable addition to their front line ahead of the 2025/26 season.

LATEST PERFORMANCES AND SEASON OUTLOOK

Igor Paixão played a vital role last season as Feyenoord finished second in the Eredivisie, just behind PSV Eindhoven. In the 2024/25 campaign, he contributed 12 league goals and eight assists, showing his reliability and attacking threat.

Marseille, meanwhile, finished second in Ligue 1 last season and secured a return to the Champions League, a significant achievement after narrowly missing out the previous season. They urgently need more firepower to qualify for Europe’s elite competition. Marseille will meet Le Havre in their opening Ligue 1 match who barely escaped relegation last season, and they hope to start the campaign well to climb above rivals like AS Monaco and Lille.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MARSEILLE AND PAIXÃO?

The transfer is expected to be completed within days, with only minor details left to be discussed in talks. If the deal goes through, Paixão will immediately join Marseille’s pre-season preparations. The club will take part in warm-up matches as players adjust to new signings.

The deal will not only improve Marseille’s attacking line but could also boost Paixão’s international prospects as he looks to earn a Brazil call-up after being named in preliminary squads but yet to make his debut. With the Ligue 1 season about to start, all eyes will be on him to produce goals and achieve Champions League qualification.
