Federico Bernardeschi Returns to Serie A, Joins Bologna on Free Transfer

Federico Bernardeschi has signed with Bologna after leaving Toronto FC. The Italian winger is coming back to Serie A. Bernardeschi has a two-year contract with Bologna and will wear the number 10 shirt this season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bernardeschi, who is 31 years old, has signed with Bologna after leaving Toronto FC this summer. He joined Bologna as a free agent, as confirmed by reports. The club announced that Bernardeschi has signed a permanent deal until 2027. Bernardeschi was last seen in Serie A in 2022, before moving to Major League Soccer. He played in Toronto for 88 league matches and scored 25 goals, but his contract, which was due to end in 2026, was mutually ended after he left Toronto FC.

BERNARDESCHI’S CAREER AND BOLOGNA’S AMBITIONS

Bernardeschi is known for being versatile and skillful with the ball. He can play as a winger, attacking midfielder, or outside midfielder. He previously played for Fiorentina and Juventus, winning three Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia trophies with Juve. Bologna had a strong season last year, finishing ninth in Serie A and winning the Coppa Italia, which secured them a Champions League spot. They are now adding new players to stay competitive. Bernardeschi becomes Bologna’s fourth new signing this summer, following the arrivals of Ciro Immobile and Martin Vitik.
