Álvaro Morata Set for Como Switch After Galatasaray Spell Ends

Álvaro Morata is about to join Como after Galatasaray gave their approval. The Spanish striker is expected to sign a multi-year contract. He will be the club’s star addition as they return to Serie A.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Morata was on loan at Galatasaray from AC Milan for part of the 2024/25 season. He is set to complete his move to Como once all documents are finalized. Morata scored six goals and provided one assist during his loan spell at Galatasaray, and reports indicate that neither Galatasaray nor Milan planned to keep him for the new season. Como, managed by former Spain teammate Cesc Fabregas, want Morata as their main target after being promoted to Serie A. The deal is expected to last until 2028 with an option to extend to 2029. Final medical checks and paperwork are due soon. This is a major move for Como as they prepare their squad for the top league again.

COMO’S AMBITIONS AND MORATA’S CAREER TURN

Como’s return to Serie A is an ambitious new chapter for them. Signing Morata is a bold move. The club wants to be established in Italy’s top division. Morata, 32, has had a challenging two years. After leading Spain to victory in Euro 2024, he transferred from Atletico Madrid to Milan but couldn’t adjust. He won the Turkish title during a loan to Galatasaray, where he scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances. Both Galatasaray and Milan chose new paths in the summer. Morata’s reunion with Fabregas might improve his form, which is important as Spain prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

WHAT NEXT FOR COMO AND MORATA?

Como finished 10th in Serie A last season and will be pushing for European qualification this season. They need Morata for goals and leadership as they return to top-tier football. Their first match of the 2025/26 Serie A season is against Lazio, a mid-tier team from last year. This will be an early test. At 32, Morata still dreams of playing for Spain. However, national coach Luis de la Fuente has said that his call-up will depend on his form and minutes played at the club. Morata’s performances at Como will be closely watched by fans in Italy and Spain as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
