Alejandro Garnacho Fuels Exit Talk as He Celebrates Rashford’s Barcelona Switch

Marcus Rashford is not the only one leaving Manchester United in this transfer window. It now seems that Alejandro Garnacho is also preparing to call time on his United career. Reports indicate that Garnacho is looking to stay in the Premier League, despite his impending departure from the club this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Rashford, who fell out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim, completed a season-long loan to Barcelona earlier today. The English striker is one of many high-profile names departing United, and a report confirmed that Garnacho is among the group of players wanting to leave the club this summer. Rashford quickly shared his excitement on social media once the move was confirmed.

In response, Garnacho publicly commented “Lets gooooo” with two salute emojis under Rashford’s post. Many viewed Rashford’s transfer as ‘freedom’ from Amorim’s time at the club. The winger’s enthusiastic response about his teammate leaving, despite being embroiled in similar rumours of departing Old Trafford, raised more than a few eyebrows.

THE BIGGER PICTURE:

The Argentine winger reportedly made it clear to the club that he wanted to leave this summer. Amorim’s United endured a dreadful campaign, where they finished outside the Champions League spots. The manager is now looking to overhaul the entire squad, with Garnacho at the heart of the exits. He produced an inconsistent end to the season, contributing only 11 goals and 9 assists across all competitions last season.

His relationship with the manager has hit rock-bottom, especially after the public spat following United’s Europa League loss. These factors have led to Manchester United slashing his asking price to £40 million, with Aston Villa and Chelsea showing interest in signing Garnacho this summer.

WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?

Despite Rashford’s departure, United were not prepared to enter the market for attacking reinforcements. Instead, Amorim signed 20-year-old midfielder Alfie Devine from Southampton, as well as forwards Mbeumo and Metheus Cunha, both with extensive Premier League experience. Meanwhile, the planning for their upcoming matches continues as pre-season is already underway.

With only a few weeks to go before United play Arsenal to begin their 2025/26 campaign, the team will need to adapt quickly to the changes in the squad.
