Maxime Esteve Commits Future to Burnley with New Long-Term Deal
Burnley have ensured defender Maxime Esteve will be staying at the club after the Frenchman signed a new contract that will keep him at Turf Moor until June 2030.
CONTRACT EXTENSION AMID HIGH INTEREST
Esteve, 23, has extended his stay at Burnley with a new five-year contract, just as the club prepare for their return to the Premier League. Sky Sports News revealed earlier in the summer that Burnley had already received three formal enquiries for the centre-back, including from Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, but all three approaches were knocked back, suggesting the club were happy for the player to run down his deal into his final year before potentially losing him on a free. Reports confirm that Burnley want more than €35 million for Maxime Estève.
Amid growing suggestions that a deal could be done with Tottenham, those links failed to materialise and Esteve is now on course to stay at Burnley on a long-term basis.
ESTEVE’S IMPORTANCE TO BURNLEY’S PLANS
Following his arrival in the English top flight, Esteve criticised Burnley’s slide down the table after their promising start before insisting he was focused on staying and helping the club return to the Premier League. That is exactly what Burnley have done at the end of the 2024-25 season, bouncing back from relegation at the first time of asking. However, their task is far from complete as they will once again be up against big clubs with massive resources in the Premier League.
Amid all this, the importance of Esteve to Burnley’s plans is evident given how smoking-hot he was in the previous Championship campaign. As well as playing 46 league matches for Burnley and recapturing his top form, Esteve also made key tackles and blocks at important stages to help Burnley maintain their solid defensive record, allowing only 16 goals and keeping 30 clean sheets in the Championship season.
LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEW SEASON
Burnley’s preparations for the new season will become much easier now that Esteve is staying at the club. They now know who their main centre-back will be as they embark on what promises to be a massive season for the team. It all starts with an intriguing match against Tottenham, who finished 17th last season but won the Europa League and will begin their season against Champions League winners PSG for the European Supercup. That game will set the tone, with supporters of the Clarets set to see a lot of Esteve in the weeks and months to come.
