Edon Zhegrova Set To Leave Lille As Transfer Race Gathers Pace

Lille winger Edon Zhegrova is likely to leave the club soon. Many big teams, including Napoli, are interested in him as the transfer window gets busy.

TRANSFER TALKS ACCELERATE

Zhegrova has only a year left on his contract and won’t renew it. Lille is ready to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free next year. Lille’s president said Zhegrova wants to leave. In today’s tough financial climate in French football, the club is expecting his exit.

Earlier, Lille’s asking price was too high for Napoli, but now with more clubs interested, the competition is increasing. Atalanta, and teams from the Bundesliga and Premier League, are keeping an eye on him. Newcastle has also been suggested as a good fit for the 26-year-old winger.

ZHEGROVA’S SEASON AND LILLE’S CHANGES

Zhegrova hasn’t played for Lille since December 14, 2024, because of injuries and team changes. He was an important player in the past, but his role has reduced recently. Lille made some transfers, including the signing of Marius Broholm, showing their plan to refresh the team. Lille finished the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season in third place, confirming their competitive stance in French football. The club recently saw Jonathan David depart to join Juventus, along with Angel Gomes, who also left on a free transfer. Despite his value, Lille might sell Zhegrova to balance their books.

WHAT NEXT FOR ZHEGROVA AND LILLE?

The bidding is expected to heat up in the next few weeks. Zhegrova might join a Serie A, Premier League, or Bundesliga team before the window ends. Napoli and Atalanta have already contacted Lille. Lille wants to finalize the sale and use the money to strengthen their squad.

They are preparing for a Champions League qualifying clash in August. Their league opener is scheduled shortly after, and Lille aims to keep their top-four status despite the summer changes.
