Milan Škriniar Set to Sign for Fenerbahçe After Arrival in Istanbul

Milan Škriniar has arrived in Istanbul to complete his move to Fenerbahçe. The Slovak defender is expected to sign a long-term deal, reportedly until 2028, joining manager José Mourinho for the new season after a successful loan spell.

TRANSFER AGREEMENT AND ARRIVAL

Škriniar, 30, arrived in Istanbul with Fenerbahçe’s German director Devin Özek to finalize paperwork. The transfer fee from Paris Saint-Germain is expected to be between €10 million and €15 million as confirmed in reports. He will reportedly earn around €7.5 million annually, which is a pay cut from his previous contract at PSG. Both Škriniar and the club have agreed on personal terms. Škriniar impressed during a loan spell last season and is set to be Mourinho’s key defensive signing.

ŠKRINIAR’S JOURNEY AND IMPACT

Škriniar joined PSG in 2023 from Inter Milan but had limited appearances, only making 20 appearances in Ligue 1 during his time there. Last season, during his loan at Fenerbahçe, he became a leader in defense and helped the team’s title push, contributing to their second-place finish in the Turkish Süper Lig, but at considerable distance to Galatasaray. Fenerbahçe also reached the Turkish Cup semi-finals. Škriniar made 16 appearances and was praised for his consistent performances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. His return is a significant boost for Fenerbahçe in their title quest.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR FENERBAHÇE?

With the transfer nearly complete, Škriniar is expected to join Fenerbahçe’s pre-season camp in Portugal. Their first league match of the new Süper Lig season is against Kasımpaşa, who finished seventh last year. Fenerbahçe hope Škriniar’s leadership will help them close the gap on Galatasaray and reclaim the league title. The club also aims to progress further in European competitions, with his experience being crucial. For PSG, selling Škriniar eases their wage bill and allows focus on younger defenders.
