Heung-Min Son Says Goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur After 10 Years

Heung-Min Son is leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, ending his legendary time at the North London club.

SON CONFIRMS DEPARTURE

At a press conference in Seoul, Son announced he is leaving Tottenham. He said, “I came to north London as a kid. A boy who couldn’t speak English. I leave this club as a young man. Thanks to all the Spurs fans who have given me so much love.”

The Spurs captain called it the hardest decision of his career and said his time in London was full of amazing memories. Tottenham coach Thomas Frank confirmed Son would lead the team in their final match against Newcastle, which will be a fitting farewell.

LOOKING BACK AT SON’S IMPACT

Son is leaving Tottenham after having joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. Over the years he became one of the club’s best-ever players. He has scored 162 goals in all competitions and has set up countless more. Son captained the club this season, leading them to domestic stability, as well as ending their 17-year trophy drought with the 2025 EFL Cup win.

Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season. Son’s leadership and goals have again been vital with the forward contributing 19 goals and seven assists.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Son is expected to join Los Angeles FC, with the deal almost done. Tottenham must now plan for life without their captain. Several players, including Brennan Johnson and Timothee Pembele, are waiting to fill Son’s spot in the squad.

Spurs face PSG next, in a key match as it sees the winners of the Europa League face the Champions League winners face to face before their Premier League opener against Burnley. The club will look to secure a top-four spot, after failing miserably last season. For Son, a fresh chapter in Major League Soccer awaits. For Tottenham, a new era begins.
