Real Betis Complete Signing Of Nelson Deossa From Monterrey
Real Betis have signed Colombian midfielder Nelson Deossa from Monterrey. He signed a contract until June 2030. The transfer fee is around $14 million, with possible add-ons of $2 million.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Betis and Monterrey reached an agreement to sign Deossa. The documents are now signed. The 25-year-old midfielder was a key player for Monterrey and attracted interest from several European sides after a good display, especially in the Club World Cup. West Ham United wanted him but Betis outbid them. Deossa’s arrival is timely for Betis as they lost Johnny Cardoso to Atletico Madrid, which is a huge step up in their midfield rebuild.
DEOSSA’S IMPACT AND BETIS’S CURRENT SITUATION
Last season, the midfielder played 29 matches for Monterrey and managed to score seven goals and one assist. He is a perfect fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s style of play, which is a combination of energy, defensive chops, and good passing. Betis finished sixth in La Liga and secured a spot in the UEFA Conference League, where they reached the final last season, and will be hoping to get back to European competition.
WHAT’S AHEAD FOR DEOSSA AND BETIS?
Deossa will visit Seville for a medical check and report for preseason training this week. Pellegrini’s side visit newly-promoted Elche in their first match of the season. They registered a sixth-place finish last term, trailing the Champions League spots by ten points, which was taken by Villarreal. A positive start to the season will give their fans a renewed sense of hope and a way back into Europe.
