Benjamin Šeško Close To Premier League Move: Newcastle And Man Utd In Battle

Benjamin Šeško will soon decide his future as both Newcastle United and Manchester United are willing to meet RB Leipzig’s transfer fee. The sought-after striker is at the center of a big transfer battle, as reported recently.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle United have made a formal bid for Šeško, reportedly matching Leipzig‘s €75 million price with an extra €5 million in potential bonuses. The Magpies need more attack options after losing their main target, Hugo Ekitiké, to Liverpool. They are also uncertain about Alexander Isak’s future, as Newcastle are reluctant to let him leave. Manchester United are staying in contact with Leipzig and will make a bid if Šeško chooses them. Both clubs are waiting for the Slovenian striker’s decision, and it’s reported that he hasn’t ruled out either club. Man Utd don’t need to sell players to complete the transfer, although they may need to later for financial reasons.

WHY ŠEŠKO IS SO WANTED

Šeško, 22, has become one of the best young forwards in Europe. Last season, he scored 21 goals across all competitions for Leipzig, including four in the UEFA Champions League and 14 in the Bundesliga, with six assists in 39 games. His speed, heading, and scoring make him stand out. His performance helped Leipzig finish seventh in the Bundesliga and miss out on European football last season. Newcastle and Manchester United both struggled for goal scorers last season — Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League, just reaching Champions League qualification, while United finished 15th, failing to qualify for any European competitions.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Šeško’s expected decision in the next few days will determine the next steps. Newcastle start their new Premier League season next weekend against Aston Villa, who finished right below them last year. Manchester United begin their season against last season’s 2nd place Arsenal. Either club could announce Šeško as a major summer signing before their first matches, hoping he will score the goals they need to move closer to England’s top four teams.
