Manchester United Manager Rúben Amorim Forms New Leadership Group

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has announced the creation of a new leadership group to help guide the club through a period of cultural change. The group consists of Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martínez, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton, and Noussair Mazraoui.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In a move aimed at improving the club’s dressing room atmosphere and setting higher standards, Amorim has included six key players in a new leadership structure. Team captain Bruno Fernandes will lead the group, working closely with Martínez, Maguire, Dalot, Heaton, and summer signing Mazraoui. Amorim explained that the group is not just about status—each member will play an active part in maintaining discipline, building a positive environment, and supporting teammates both on and off the pitch. The manager emphasized, “We have rules, and the rules are not to treat the players as babies. They have sons. I treat them as a man, but they have rules now. And that can change the way you train.”

BUILDING A NEW CULTURE

This decision comes as Amorim continues his efforts to change the culture at Manchester United. Since taking charge, he has made bold choices, including leaving Marcus Rashford out of the pre-season tour squad due to his future plans for the squad, as he has stated that Marcus Rashford does not fit into his plans for the future at Manchester United and has been loaned out for the season to Barcelona. Amorim believes that creating a strong leadership group will help players hold each other accountable, promote hard work, and raise performance standards. Last season, United finished outside the Champions League places and struggled with inconsistency, highlighting the need for deeper changes throughout the club.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR UNITED?

The new leadership group will take on immediate responsibility as Manchester United open their Premier League campaign next weekend. United finished 15th last season, failing to qualify for any European competition. Their first match of the new season is against Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation last season. With a new leadership team in place, Amorim and United fans will hope this is the start of a turnaround, both in the dressing room and on the pitch. Notably, Amorim has expressed his contentment with the current squad ahead of the new season, as detailed in a recent report confirming his satisfaction with the team’s progress.
