Ademola Lookman Submits Transfer Request, Seeks Atalanta Exit
Ademola Lookman has officially asked to leave Atalanta. The Nigerian forward said he wants to find a “solution for all parties” after broken promises from the club leadership.
LOOKMAN CALLS FOR EXIT AFTER BROKEN PROMISES
Lookman confirmed in a statement that he has asked Atalanta to let him leave after several months of “poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer” and “broken promises” from the club. He claims there had been an understanding with Atalanta’s management that he would be allowed to leave this summer if a fair offer arrived. Lookman said an appropriate offer had come in, but the club was now blocking his move despite their earlier agreement. Reports indicate that Inter Milan made two bids for Lookman, offering €40 million first, then €45 million including add-ons; both of which Atalanta rejected.
IMPACT ON ATALANTA AND INTER’S PURSUIT
Lookman has been vital for Atalanta since joining three years ago and helped them win the UEFA Europa League in May 2024 with a historic hat-trick in the final. Last season, he scored 13 goals and provided 8 assists in 31 league appearances. Atalanta finished third in Serie A, securing Champions League football by four points over fifth-placed Juventus. For Inter, who finished second in Serie A last season, signing Lookman has been a priority, and they now appear ready to push again following his public request. Inter had reached a personal agreement with Lookman weeks ago.
WHAT COMES NEXT FOR LOOKMAN AND ATALANTA
The request puts immediate pressure on Atalanta’s board, especially as the transfer window reaches its final weeks. The club faces newly promoted Pisa in their next Serie A match as it tries to make a push for a title challenge. Inter, who face Torino next, they come into the new season as the main title contenders in the Serie A, after finishing 2 points behind Napoli last season. If Atalanta reject further bids, tensions may rise between player and club, risking disruption to their early season momentum. All sides are now under scrutiny as a conclusion over Lookman’s future is awaited.
