Manchester City Prepared to Offer Rodri New Contract Until 2029

Manchester City want to give midfielder Rodri a new contract lasting until June 2029. If the Spanish international agrees, he could become City’s second-highest paid player after Erling Haaland.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH RODRI?

City want to extend Rodri‘s current contract, which runs until 2027, for two more years. The new deal would significantly increase his wages, making him the club’s second-top earner after Haaland. Although the decision is now in Rodri’s hands, City see a new deal for their star as a key priority. They want to reward Rodri for his influence on the team and plan to keep him as a central player in the coming years.

WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT FOR CITY?

Rodri is regarded as City’s most important player in midfield and was named 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. Despite a serious knee injury at the start of the 2024/25 season, Rodri is on track to be ready next season after making a late recovery in the current campaign. City aim to reclaim the Premier League title after finishing third last season, as they look to secure their position amongst the top teams in England, behind champions Arsenal and Liverpool. By securing Rodri’s long-term future, City have shown their ambition to stay competitive at home and abroad amid rumours of Real Madrid’s interest.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR RODRI AND CITY?

City’s preseason starts soon and they are preparing for the Premier League, with their opening match seeing them face Wolves. City hope to wrap up contract extension talks with Rodri quickly as they line up new deals for other key men. If Rodri signs, he would be cemented as a leader on and off the pitch as City look to be crowned Premier League champions again and go on to achieve even greater success.
