Manchester United Closing In on Benjamin Šeško After Agreeing Personal Terms

Manchester United are getting closer to signing Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig. The clubs are talking to agree on a transfer fee. Šeško agreed to personal terms earlier this week and will join the club until 2030, according to reports. He is currently training separately from the Leipzig squad while negotiations continue.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Šeško scored 21 goals in 39 matches for RB Leipzig last season, including four goals in the UEFA Champions League, which confirms his potential. He is Manchester United’s top striker target after they missed out on Viktor Gyökeres to Arsenal. They are negotiating a package worth around £65 million plus up to £9m in add-ons with Leipzig. While both Manchester United and Newcastle United made strong offers for the Slovenian striker, United have now moved in front after they agreed personal terms. RB Leipzig’s decision to let Šeško train on his own indicates that he is on the verge of leaving the Bundesliga giants. The deal is expected to be announced this week.

WHY UNITED MADE THIS MOVE

Manchester United struggled for goals last season. Midfielder Bruno Fernandes finished as their top scorer with just 19 goals, while strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to deliver consistently. New manager Rúben Amorim has made signing a reliable striker a priority and has already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen the attack. United, who will hope Šeško can help bring about a long-awaited return to title contention, will be encouraged by the fact that reports indicate he prefers to join them. Arsenal also targeted the Slovenia international striker at one stage, but they ultimately signed Gyökeres from United instead.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR UNITED?

Manchester United will look to wrap up Šeško’s transfer before the new Premier League season starts next weekend. United open their campaign against Arsenal, and they aim to improve on last season, when they finished 15th, far from the European spots, which will be the season’s main goal. RB Leipzig also finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season, failing to secure a spot in the Champions League, as they will need to reinvest Šeško’s fee after losing their main striker.
