Heung-Min Son Bids Emotional Farewell to Tottenham After Ten Years

Heung-Min Son has announced that he is leaving Tottenham after ten years with the club. The South Korean forward shared an emotional letter with fans as he said goodbye to the club he spent a decade with.

WHAT SON SAID

Son reflected on his ten-year journey at the club in a long message published on his social media. He wrote: “How to find the right words for this? I don’t know. I have been thinking for days. It’s impossible. But here I go. It’s time for me to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur. My home for the past decade. When I arrived in 2015, I didn’t speak English, I didn’t know London, but you welcomed me with open arms, believed in me and stood by me through every high and low. I was just a boy from Korea with big dreams who was supposed to have no chance. And now, 10 years later, North London is in my heart forever. I’ve made friends for life here, had the honour of becoming godfather here and had the privilege of captaining our special club here. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this club, which makes this the hardest decision ever. I thought if I was ever going to leave, it would have to be on my terms, on the best terms, when our mission had been accomplished together. With pride and honour.”

THE END OF AN ERA

Son leaves Tottenham as one of the greatest players in the club’s history. He scored 160 goals in all competitions during his time in north London and served as captain. Last season, he played 32 Premier League matches, scoring 16 goals and providing 8 assists. Tottenham finished the 2024/25 Premier League season in fifth place, just missing out on Champions League qualification by three points. Son remained a mainstay in the team until their final match of the season, often leading through his performances.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Son will now begin a new chapter of his career as he is set to move to Major League Soccer outfit LAFC. The task for Tottenham now is to build for the future without their captain and club icon. They have already shown signs of intent in the transfer market, with the arrivals of players like Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus ahead of the new season. Spurs are set to begin their new Premier League campaign next week at home against Burnley as they aim to return to the Champions League and close the gap at the top of the table.
