Lucas Digne is going to stay with Aston Villa. He has agreed to a new contract that lasts until June 2028.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The left-back, who turned 32 this year, was wanted by many clubs during the summer. Despite interest from other places, Digne has decided to stay at Aston Villa. He reached an agreement for a new deal lasting three more seasons. Villa manager Unai Emery also wanted Digne to stay, and this was made clear during discussions.

VILLA’S SEASON SO FAR

Aston Villa has had a good 2024-25 Premier League season where thei finished 6th, building on their top-four finish last season. Digne played an important part in helping the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years where they reached the knockout stage, losign to eventual champions PSG. This season, Villa is aiming for a top-four spot, after missing out on Champions League last season when they finished 6th, losing the spot in the last matchday. Digne has been a regular starter and scored two goals with seven assists in 31 appearances so far.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR VILLA AND DIGNE?

Digne’s contract extension makes him the third major player to commit to Villa this summer, after new deals for Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara. This stability is important as Villa prepares for a difficult run-in. Their next match is against Newcastle for the Premier League opener, in amatch that puts face to face the 5th and 6th teams from last season. Digne’s experience and form will be important as Villa looks to secure their spot in Europe’s elite competition next season.
