Lucas Chevalier Set to Join PSG in Major Transfer Move

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille on a five-year contract. The transfer fee will be more than €40 million, including potential bonuses, as confirmed by a recent report.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Lucas Chevalier, aged 23, will undergo a medical before confirming his move to PSG. The two clubs agreed on a fee of over €40 million, with possible bonuses making it up to €55 million. Chevalier excelled at Lille last season, keeping 12 clean sheets in 34 Ligue 1 matches and helping them finish fifth in Ligue 1, which secured Europa League qualification. His transfer to PSG occurs amid uncertainty about Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future at the club, as he is yet to agree to a contract extension, prompting PSG to seek a new first-choice goalkeeper.

PSG’S GOALKEEPING SHAKE-UP

PSG’s move to secure Chevalier comes after a season where manager Luis Enrique reportedly wanted more control over the goalkeeping decisions. Discussions with Chevalier began months ago, even before Donnarumma found form towards the end of the 2024-2025 season. This deal provides PSG with a promising French goalkeeper, known for his consistent performances at Lille, where he was a standout among Ligue 1 goalkeepers. His arrival gives PSG a fresh option as they look to defend their Ligue 1 title, having finished as champions last season with only 2 losses throughout the entire campaign.

WHAT NEXT FOR PSG AND LILLE?

Chevalier’s medical is scheduled this week, and he is expected to be available for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Nantes, who finished 13th last season, after playing Tottenham for the European Supercup. PSG begin the season as defending champions, with Monaco, Lyon, and Marseille attempting to close the gap. Lille now face the challenge of finding a new first-choice goalkeeper amid the new campaign, having finished fifth, and will be looking at closing the gap to teams ahead and eventually qualify for the Champions League. With great expectations on Chevalier, there will be keen attention on how quickly he adapts as PSG aims for continued domestic and European success.
