Napoli Secure Deal for Miguel Gutierrez from Girona

Napoli have agreed with Girona to sign Spanish left back Miguel Gutierrez for €18 million plus €2 million in add-ons. Gutierrez chose Napoli over other clubs.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 8, Napoli finalized a deal to sign Miguel Gutierrez from Girona, worth up to €20 million. This is Napoli’s seventh summer signing. Gutierrez, 24, picked Napoli despite interest from big clubs like PSV Eindhoven and Arsenal. He will travel for medical tests before the move becomes official. As reported, Miguel Gutierrez has accepted Napoli’s offer and is working on personal terms for a five-year contract.

THE SEASON SO FAR

Last season, Napoli finished as winners in Serie A, reaching direct Champions League qualification and their 3rd title in history. Strengthening their defense was a priority. Miguel Gutierrez had a great season with Girona, making 36 league appearances, scoring twice, and providing five assists, helping Girona in guaranteeing a stay in La Liga. Gutierrez played impressively, as he attracted interest from top Premier League clubs and ended the season having played in 34 La Liga games.

Gutierrez is set for a medical in Naples and will sign his contract soon. Napoli start their Serie A season against Sassuolo next week. With Gutierrez’s addition, Napoli aim to close the gap at the top. Girona will need a quick replacement as they prepare for the Champions League.
