Newcastle United Face Uncertain Future With Alexander Isak Amid Liverpool Interest

Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has said Alexander Isak can’t play with the first-team squad right now. The club hopes he can return when the time is “right.” Isak is not playing because people think he might move to Liverpool.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Alexander Isak has been told to stay away from Newcastle’s main team since he showed interest in leaving during the transfer window. Liverpool offered a large sum of money, about £110 million and extras, but Newcastle said no. Isak wasn’t part of the pre-season tours in Asia and missed a recent friendly against Espanyol. He is currently back training separately at the club’s Benton location after training at his old club, Real Sociedad. According to reports, Isak wants to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool before the summer transfer window closes. Eddie Howe, the manager, has confirmed Isak’s future is with Newcastle, but he can only return once some problems between him and the club are sorted out.

ISAK’S IMPACT AND NEWCASTLE’S POSITION

Isak is a very important player for Newcastle because he scored crucial goals last season. Notably, one of his goals won the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, which was Newcastle’s first trophy in 70 years. In the 2024/25 Premier League season, Isak scored 17 times and made 5 assists in 32 games, making him the top scorer for the team. Last season, he scored 27 goals across all competitions, solidifying his stature as one of the top scorers in the league. Newcastle ended last season in 5th place, just reaching Champions League qualification, and they aim to improve this year. Liverpool, the club interested in buying Isak, finished 1st last year with a strong performance.

LOOKING AHEAD: FIXTURES AND FUTURE DECISIONS

Newcastle start the Premier League next week against Aston Villa, who also finished in the top 6 last season. With Isak still not playing, Howe will depend on new players like Wissa from Brentford. Liverpool, who are competing to sign Isak, have strengthened their squad significantly following a successful season. Whether Isak stays at Newcastle United or moves before the transfer window closes will largely affect the team’s chances this season.
