Endrick Announced as Real Madrid’s New Number 9

Real Madrid have made official that their prized South American superstar Endrick will don the iconic No 9 for the 2025-26 season.

The Brazilian forward’s change in shirt number is in line with head coach Xabi Alonso’s big plans and a move away from the club’s put in the backseat for now. Apart from Endrick, other players like Gonzalo Garcia have also been assigned new shirt numbers. Endrick’s promotion sees Gonzalo Garcia shift from No 29 to 36, as Real Madrid‘s management thinks highly of Gonzalo García and wants him to be part of the senior squad for the new season.

WHAT BECKHAM SAID

The new Real Madrid head coach said about the opportunities for young players at the club, “There’s been a narrative around the club that we’ve not given opportunities to young players and that we don’t take it seriously, but that’s far from the truth. We’re making big statements with these squad numbers but I think during pre-season, you saw that the quality is there. They’ve all had experience of playing in La Liga in the big club and now it’s about someone like Peter Caesar having an incredible loan last year and being given an opportunity this year.”

WHAT ENDRICK SAID

Endrick added on his squad number, “It’s huge responsibility with a number of legends who have worn it before me but it’s one that I’m truly honoured to accept. People will talk about his t-shirt, but at the end of the day, I love playing football and that’s what I’m looking forward to most. I don’t really care what number is behind me but it’s an honour to wear this and I’m very excited and will try to do it justice if I have the opportunity to play.”

The youngster will hope to get some minutes as Real kick off their 2025-26 season next weekend at home against Osasuna. Additionally, it should be noted that Jude Bellingham will miss the start of the 2025/26 season for Real Madrid, which may provide further opportunities for young talents like Endrick.
