Chelsea Push For Xavi Simons Transfer As Squad Overhaul Takes Shape

Chelsea are speeding up talks with RB Leipzig to sign Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons. They plan to free up space for him and Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho by moving some players out.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Negotiations are underway between Chelsea and RB Leipzig for Simons’ transfer. Chelsea hopes to settle for a fee under £50 million. The club wants to let go of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, possibly to Leipzig, as they refresh their attack. Young player Tyrique George could also be part of the deal. Leipzig accepts that Simons is likely leaving and is searching for replacements, including Harvey Elliott from Liverpool. Reports indicate that Xavi Simons has asked RB Leipzig to let him transfer to Chelsea.

CHELSEA AND LEIPZIG’S SEASON SO FAR

Chelsea finished 4th in the Premier League last season, qualifying for a Champions League spot. RB Leipzig finished 7th in the Bundesliga, failing to secure an European spot. Simons was a standout performer for Leipzig with 10 goals and seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances last season while on loan. Nkunku struggled at Chelsea, scoring only four goals in 21 matches due to injuries. Chelsea will face Crystal Palace next, while Leipzig are set to meet Bayern Munich.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Chelsea need to finalize player sales and agree on the transfer fee with Leipzig for Simons. The team faces intense competition for places, especially with the recent arrivals of Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens. Their strong preseason form might influence Chelsea’s strategy. If Simons joins, Leipzig might target Nkunku or Jackson as a replacement. Chelsea are focusing on securing Simons and Garnacho quickly to boost their attack, as they have agreed on personal terms with Garnacho before the season’s start, while Leipzig are focused on finding a replacement for their star player.
