Atlético Madrid Complete €26m Deal for Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli

Atlético Madrid have signed Italy forward Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli on a five-year contract. The deal is worth about €26 million.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Atlético confirmed Raspadori‘s arrival after he passed his medical. The total cost of the transfer is around €26 million, including extra payments. He signed a contract until 2030. The deal includes €22 million as a fixed fee plus €4 million in extra payments based on Champions League participation. The 25-year-old leaves Napoli after two league titles in three seasons. He joined Napoli from Sassuolo in 2022 and played various roles in attack. A recent report revealed that the transfer now depends on Napoli’s response to the offer after agreement on personal terms.

WHY THIS MOVE MATTERS

Raspadori adds flexibility to Atlético’s attack. He can play as a center-forward, second striker, or left-side attacker. Last season for Napoli, he started 11 out of 38 league games, scoring six goals and making one assist in just over 1,000 minutes. This shows he’s effective even with limited playing time. He has 18 goals and 10 assists in 109 matches for Napoli in all competitions. He also scored nine goals in 40 games for Italy, including being part of the EURO 2020 winning squad. Atlético, who improved their team this summer, gain an Italy international in his prime with high-level European experience.

THE BIGGER PICTURE FOR BOTH CLUBS

Atlético aim to close the gap in LaLiga after an inconsistent season, while also preparing for another strong performance in Europe. Raspadori is the second Italian to join the team after Matteo Ruggeri. This shows a focused recruitment plan. For Napoli, letting Raspadori go could allow them to pursue other targets, such as Yunus Musah from AC Milan. They are adjusting their attack after a title-winning core changed significantly in recent seasons, as Napoli finished the 2024/25 Serie A season as winners, claiming their 3rd title.

WHAT NEXT?

Raspadori will compete for playing time in various attacking roles. He will likely play both centrally and on the left, rotating with current creative players at the club. Atlético’s immediate focus is on getting him ready before their LaLiga opener this month. They want to fit him into Diego Simeone’s system quickly. With Champions League action ahead, how the team performs in early fixtures will affect whether Atlético want more attacking signings or if they are happy with their summer deals.
