Marash Kumbulla Set to Join Mallorca After Making Clear Decision

Albanian defender Marash Kumbulla has made up his mind to join Mallorca. This decision puts an end to rumors about his future, following his expected departure from Roma this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Kumbulla, 25, currently worth €7.5 million, was no longer a part of Roma’s plans. As a result, he had multiple offers from La Liga and Serie A clubs. He has picked Mallorca, rejecting Alavés, Espanyol, and Sevilla. The Giallorossi had wanted to sell him permanently to recover a portion of the €26.5 million they paid. Kumbulla wasn’t considered in Roma’s recent friendlies and is aware of the need to find a new club soon. His move is expected to finalize shortly, bringing him to Spain before the new season begins.

MALLORCA’S DEFENSIVE BOOST AND SEASON OUTLOOK

Meanwhile, Mallorca ended last season at 10th, only four points below the last European spot. Their defensive record was poor, conceding 52 goals in 38 matches. Adding Kumbulla will strengthen their backline, which they spent the summer reinforcing. The club is preparing for a difficult start, with a season opener where they visit title contenders Real Madrid, last season’s runner-ups. Mallorca will look to close the gap between them and the top teams, and avoid the drop zone as much as possible.

KUMBULLA’S CAREER SO FAR AND EXPECTATIONS

Last season, Kumbulla saw limited minutes at Roma due to injury and a change of head coach. He managed just 12 league appearances and didn’t register any goal involvement. The centre-back was previously a regular starter at both Roma and Verona. With Mallorca after him, the Albanian is expected to start immediately in defence. The club will count on his experience and physical presence as they look to stabilize and climb out of danger early in the season. The move could also revive Kumbulla’s own career, putting him back in the spotlight as a starting center-back in Spain.
