Ederson on the Brink of Manchester City Exit as Galatasaray Talks Advance

Manchester City’s goalkeeper Ederson is not playing today as talks about a transfer have moved quickly. Galatasaray has made a €10 million offer to get the Brazilian star before the transfer window closes.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Galatasaray is close to signing Ederson this summer. Ederson wants to leave, and the Turkish club offered €10 million, but they think Manchester City will ask for more. City values Ederson at £13 to £15 million, and a report confirmed that Manchester City want more than the €10 million offered by Galatasaray for Ederson. Discussions have been going on since early August. Galatasaray needs a new goalkeeper for their Champions League return. They must register players for European games by September 2, and the transfer window closes on September 11.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ederson, 31, has been very important for Manchester City since he joined them in 2017. Last season, he played in 45 matches, helping City finish just two points behind Arsenal in the Premier League in what was a strange season for Guardiola’s team in which they failed to win any title. Losing Ederson would be a big change, but City planned ahead by re-signing James Trafford from Burnley. Galatasaray also considered Yann Sommer and Diogo Costa, but Ederson is their main target. The team wants to be stronger for the Champions League, and they recently won the Süper Lig title, finishing ahead of Fenerbahçe. Discussions for Ederson are still ongoing, and he has been identified as Galatasaray’s key target as per recent updates.

WHAT COMES NEXT?

Negotiations between Manchester City and Galatasaray will continue. Manchester City may ask for more money because Ederson is still under contract and playing well according to a previous report. If Ederson leaves, City might pursue Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG, whom they have already been linked with in discussions for a potential move. Galatasaray will play Kasımpaşa next, who finished mid-table last season. Manchester City’s next league match is against Wolves, who has been a difficult opponent for the Citizens. Both teams want to complete their squads as soon as possible.
