Stuttgart Block Bayern Move For Nick Woltemade

VfB Stuttgart have confirmed that striker Nick Woltemade will stay at the club for the 2025-26 season. This shuts down Bayern Munich’s attempts to sign the German forward. Talks between the clubs have ended without an agreement after several bids from Bayern.

TRANSFER TALKS BREAK DOWN

Bayern had targeted Woltemade as their top striker signing, increasing their offer up to €60 million in the hope of convincing Stuttgart to sell. Stuttgart stood firm, reportedly demanding at least €75 million before even considering negotiations. Despite personal terms being agreed between Woltemade and Bayern, the two clubs could not bridge the gap. Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle publicly ended the speculation, saying “The matter is closed. Nick Woltemade is our player and will play for us this year” before their Supercup clash with Bayern. Bayern director Christoph Freund echoed this, confirming, “It always takes three parties to complete a transfer. That wasn’t the case and there was no agreement.” A previous report indicated that Woltemade had personal terms agreed on a five-year deal until June 2030 with Bayern Munich, yet the transfer ultimately did not materialize here.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE CLUBS

This decision comes after intense weeks of negotiations and speculation. For Stuttgart, keeping Woltemade is a signal of intent as they try to build on last season’s strong Bundesliga performance, where they finished 9th and narrowly missed out on European qualification, but won the DFB Pokal, the German Cup. Woltemade, just 23, scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 33 matches during the 2024/25 season, making him vital to Stuttgart’s attack. Bayern, who won the Bundesliga last year, were seeking to add more firepower up front but will now need to look at other targets after failing to bring in the Germany international.

WHAT’S AHEAD FOR BOTH TEAMS?

Stuttgart and Bayern have just faced each other in the German Supercup, with both sides eager to start the season strongly. Stuttgart’s next game is against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, aiming to improve on last year’s ninth-place finish. Bayern, meanwhile, open their title defense against RB Leipzig and hope to sit at the top of the standings after the opening weekend. Both clubs are expected to continue positively, with Stuttgart hoping to keep their young star content and Bayern searching for alternatives in the transfer market.
