AS Roma Open Talks for Tyrell Malacia as Left-Back Reinforcement

AS Roma have started talks with Manchester United to sign Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia. They want to strengthen their team before the new season. Malacia, who is 26, is a key target for the left side of the defense.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Roma contacted Manchester United to discuss signing Malacia. They also talked about the deal while negotiating for Jadon Sancho. Malacia was on loan at PSV last season but played only eight games. New United manager Ruben Amorim doesn’t see him in future plans. Malacia has had injuries and faced tough competition at Old Trafford. He wants to join Roma for more playing time. Turkish club Besiktas is also interested in him. But Roma’s ongoing talks with United for Sancho could give them an advantage in acquiring Malacia before the transfer window closes. Notably, AS Roma are now in advanced negotiations to sign Jadon Sancho for £20 million from Manchester United, which could positively influence their discussions regarding Malacia as per reports.

WHY ROMA WANT MALACIA

Roma want to provide manager Gian Piero Gasperini with better options at left back. They expect Anass Salah-Eddine to leave, making it important to find a replacement. Malacia, who joined United from Feyenoord in 2022, was once seen as a top talent. But he hasn’t played a Premier League match in over a year and needs to move to revive his career. Roma finished fifth in Serie A last season, two points behind a Champions League spot, and they conceded 46 goals in 38 matches, highlighting their need for defensive improvement. They aim to return to the Champions League spots after finishing fifth last season as stated in their objectives.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Roma are now waiting for Manchester United and Malacia to agree on the deal’s final details. Meetings will continue in the coming days. With Besiktas also interested, United could benefit from extra demand. For Roma, signing Malacia will fill a crucial spot and show their ambition to return to the Champions League. They aim to finalize the transfer in time for their opening match, which is against Bologna. The squad is also keeping an eye on the ongoing Sancho situation. Fans will closely watch both the Malacia and Sancho developments as the transfer deadline approaches.
