Nicola Zalewski Set For Atalanta Move After Rapid Inter Turnaround

Atalanta are close to signing Polish wingback Nicola Zalewski from Inter Milan. Only final details are left for the agreement, which will be for around €16.5 million.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Talks between Inter and Atalanta moved fast, and an agreement is almost done. Zalewski joined Inter this summer from Roma for €6.5 million. He is expected to have his medical with Atalanta soon. The 23-year-old did not become a regular starter under Inter’s new coach, Cristian Chivu, as the club is rebuilding under his management. Because of this, the club decided to accept Atalanta’s big offer. Inter will make a profit of almost €10 million in just two months. Zalewski’s contract will likely keep him in Bergamo for at least four years, with an option for two more.

ATALANTA AND INTER: SEASON CONTEXT

Inter Milan have started the 2025-26 Serie A season strongly. Zalewski was not favored by Chivu. Atalanta are adding strength after a mixed start. They finished 3rd last season and would be looking at improving their performances even more after failing to buy Gosens from Fiorentina. Coach Ivan Juric thinks Zalewski fits well as he can play as a wingback or midfielder. Last season, Atalanta finished 3rd in Serie A, qualifying for the Champions League, and they are aiming to improve on that performance by adding young talent like Zalewski.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Zalewski will soon have a medical in Bergamo and, if passed, will join Atalanta in time for their next match against Pisa, who are back in the Serie A after gaining promotion last season. The signing is seen as important with Europa League qualifiers coming and the need for quality on both flanks. Inter may continue making changes to their team and could see more players leave before the transfer window closes.
