Loïc Badé Set to Join Bayer Leverkusen in €29m Transfer from Sevilla

Bayer Leverkusen are close to signing Loïc Badé from Sevilla. The clubs agreed on a €29 million deal, with only a few details left. Badé, 25, will likely sign a five-year contract with Leverkusen. Reports confirm that Leverkusen aims to finalize the Badé deal this week.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sevilla and Bayer Leverkusen are finalizing the transfer. Leverkusen already agreed on personal terms with Badé. The French defender drew interest from Inter Milan and Bournemouth, but Leverkusen acted fast. Badé played 93 games for Sevilla after joining from Rennes in 2022. He recently made his first appearance for France against Germany. Now, he’s set to join the Bundesliga runner-ups before the new season starts on Friday. Leverkusen see Badé as an important addition to strengthen their center-back options.

WHY LEVERKUSEN WANT BADÉ

Leverkusen finished 2nd in the Bundesliga last season and want to keep improving. Under new coach Erik ten Hag, the team defeated SG Sonnenhof Großaspach 4-0 in the DFB Pokal. Ten Hag uses a 3-4-3 formation, needing three center-backs. Badé adds strength to the defense for domestic and Champions League games. With a busy schedule, the team requires a big squad, and Badé fits well, particularly as Leverkusen is in advanced negotiations with Sevilla for his transfer.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CLUBS?

Leverkusen play their Bundesliga opener on Friday against Hoffenheim, who finished sixteenth last season. Leverkusen are favorites but must stay sharp to keep up with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. On the other hand, Sevilla lost a key defender as they prepare to face Getafe in their second La Liga match after losing the opener to Athletic Club 3-2. Last season, Sevilla finished level on points with the 1st relegated team, and will want to improve drastically for the upcoming season. With Badé gone, Sevilla need new defenders before the transfer window ends.
