Inter Miami Secure 19-Year-Old Mateo Silvetti from Newell’s Old Boys

Inter Miami have signed 19-year-old Mateo Silvetti, a talented winger from Newell’s Old Boys. Silvetti was sought-after by many clubs, but it is Inter Miami who have secured his signature. The player has agreed to permanently join the MLS club as Gerardo Martino’s team continues to strengthen on and off the pitch. Inter Miami will be paying a reported £11.3million for Silvetti, meaning the Argentine side have managed to cash in on one of their most exciting young stars. Reports confirm that he will be joining established stars like Lionel Messi and Rodrigo de Paul at Inter Miami.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Silvetti had been on the radar of several European suitors, but neither were prepared to meet his previous valuation. This allowed Inter Miami to swoop in and secure the player’s signature. Silvetti, who scored three times in 21 appearances for Newell’s this season, has signed a contract that will keep him at Miami until 2030. This means he will be eligible for the team’s U.S Open Cup tie against New York Red Bulls later this month. As reported, Silvetti has made 29 appearances and scored 7 goals during the 2025 season with Newell’s Old Boys, showcasing his potential at a young age.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Silvetti, who has been labelled as the ‘new Kylian Mbappe’ in his homeland, is delighted to move to the United States. Martino and Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson flew into Argentina this week to complete the deal, and the player subsequently travelled to Florida to undergo a medical. He has now been pictured in his new surroundings after signing on the dotted line.

WHAT WILL MIAMI SIGNING SILVETTI MEAN FOR THE CLUB?

Martino spoke earlier this week about the importance of signing “young blood” ahead of the new season. He has managed to accomplish this by securing the signing of Silvetti. While his team is closing in on reaching another cup final, Atlanta United and Los Angeles FC have stolen a transfer march on them with impressive signings of their own. However, some of MLS’ other best young players, Julian Quinones of Columbus Crew and Kevin Paredes of Los Angeles FC, are eager to join Miami. This only adds to the club’s allure.

At the moment, the primary attention is on the upcoming matches against LAFC and Club América. Martino and company cannot afford to rest on their laurels if they want to win a trophy on the world stage and then get back on track in the MLS. However, Silvetti’s arrival gives them something to celebrate as they look to defend the MLS Cup.
