Andy Diouf Set to Join Inter Milan in Major Midfield Transfer
Inter Milan have agreed to sign French midfielder Andy Diouf from RC Lens. Diouf will have his medical tests this week and then sign a contract until June 2030.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Inter Milan have sealed a deal for Andy Diouf, paying a base fee of €20 million that could rise to €25 million with add-ons. Inter Milan have made a €20 million bid to RC Lens for midfielder Andy Diouf, signing a five-year deal that keeps him at San Siro until summer 2030. The 22-year-old will undergo medical tests after both clubs agreed on the transfer. Inter had been considering players from Atalanta and Roma but eventually opted for Diouf as their main midfield reinforcement. Diouf is Inter’s fourth summer signing, after Ange-Yoan Bonny, Petar Sucic, and Luis Henrique.
IMPACT FOR THE TEAMS
A move to Inter brings a midfield boost for the centre of the field. Diouf comes as a missing piece in what was a close-fought Serie A title race last season. Inter Milan finished 2nd in Serie A and were within a whisker of regaining the Scudetto last season from Napoli, having lost by only two points. The arrival of Diouf could be a boost in their aspirations of winning Serie A, and at least be among the top four to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR DIOUF?
Diouf’s arrival in January has multiple elements that seem in Inter’s favour. The player will be fully match-fit. RC Lens were involved in a competitive Ligue 1 and will be looking at replacements for the player after losing both their starting midfielders to Serie A teams.
