Napoli Prepare Offer for Rasmus Højlund as Manchester United Talks Advance

Napoli are looking to sign Danish striker Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United. They’re ready with a contract proposal, and discussions are ongoing between the two clubs. Both United and Højlund are open to the transfer despite interest from several top teams.

NEGOTIATIONS HEAT UP FOR HØJLUND

Napoli have prioritized signing Højlund to improve their attack, especially after Romelu Lukaku’s injury. The Italian side are actively negotiating with Manchester United, transitioning from a simple loan to a loan with an obligatory purchase clause. Højlund has informed potential suitors like AC Milan and Atalanta that he’ll only consider a move if it results in a permanent transfer. United prefer this strategy, aiming to sell Højlund for approximately €40-€45 million. Although AC Milan and others hoped for a loan option without obligation, Højlund wants full commitment from his new club and to avoid another temporary transfer from Old Trafford. Reports indicate that Højlund is eager to move but wants a long-term commitment to Napoli.

UNITED AND NAPOLI LOOK TO SHIFT SQUADS

Højlund joined United in 2023, played 33 Premier League matches, scored 9 goals, and assisted twice last season. However, United’s fifteenth-place finish cost them a Champions League spot. Benjamin Šeško’s arrival from RB Leipzig has made Højlund’s future uncertain, resulting in his exclusion from the squad in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend where United lost 1-0. In contrast, Napoli won Serie A last season but lost Lukaku due to injury for about 3 months. Their next Serie A match is against newly promoted Sassuolo, who will fight to stay in the 1st division. Napoli hope that a new striker will help them bridge the gap to the top and stay ahead of competitors.

LOOKING AHEAD: DECISION TIME FOR HØJLUND

With the summer transfer deadline approaching, both clubs aim for a swift resolution. Højlund’s decision is anticipated soon, and Napoli are prepared to act quickly if he accepts their offer. This move would provide Højlund with a fresh beginning in Serie A and offer Napoli a promising young striker as they strive to defend their title and compete in Europe. United plan to use the transfer fee to strengthen other areas of their squad. Højlund has stated that he won’t leave Manchester United unless he can exit on his terms, making him a key player to watch as the summer transfer window enters its final days.
