Borussia Dortmund In Talks With Chelsea for Chukwuemeka and Anselmino

Borussia Dortmund are close to agreeing deals with Chelsea for both Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino. Both clubs are hopeful an agreement is not far away as the transfer window comes to an end. As per reports, Dortmund are working to finalize deals for Chelsea players Chukwuemeka and Anselmino.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Dortmund are looking to complete a permanent move for Chukwuemeka after he spent time on loan at the club last season. The German side is ready to pay Chelsea €20 million (£17m/$21m) plus bonuses and a sell-on clause for the player. Meanwhile, Anselmino is set to join Dortmund on loan for the 2025-26 campaign, with no option to buy. Direct club-to-club talks are being held regarding both players, and both deals are considered close. Chukwuemeka has played 32 times for Chelsea but struggled due to injuries and competition, and had already expressed his wish to return to Dortmund despite interest from Serie A and the Bundesliga. Notably, Dortmund are closing on the permanent signing of Chukwuemeka after Chelsea rejected their loan bid.

DORTMUND AND CHELSEA: CURRENT SITUATION

Dortmund ended the previous Bundesliga campaign in fourth place, and they are looking to improve that performance next season. Chukwuemeka played 17 times for Dortmund and scored once on loan at the club in the second half of last season. Following the recent Bundesliga standings, it is worth mentioning that Dortmund finished fourth last season as they aim to challenge Bayern Munich for the top spot. Chelsea finished in fourth place and are reshaping their squad under new coach Enzo Maresca. The Blues see Anselmino as a key player for the future and hope he will benefit from a season on loan away from the club.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH TEAMS?

If both deals can be done in time, Dortmund could include Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino in the squad list submitted to the Bundesliga ahead of their first match of the season against St Pauli, who finished in the bottom half in the Bundesliga last term. Chelsea, meanwhile, have their own squad list deadline at the Premier League headquarters as they prepare to lock horns with West Ham in their second match of the new campaign. Both clubs will continue scanning the market for final additional options to be added to the teams before the transfer window shuts.
