Besiktas Make Move for Leicester City Defender Wout Faes

Besiktas have officially approached Leicester City to sign Wout Faes. The Turkish club wants the Belgian defender to strengthen their defense before the transfer window closes.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Besiktas have started talks with Leicester City about signing Wout Faes. The club has also shown interest in Danilho Doekhi from Union Berlin. Faes, 27, is wanted by many teams after Leicester’s relegation to the Championship. Despite offers from Lazio and Saudi Arabia, he has stayed with Leicester, playing in both of their league matches this season. He scored against Sheffield Wednesday and provided an assist against Preston North End. Besiktas, led by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, want Faes to be a key part of their defense. They have already signed seven players and aim for a better league finish.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR BOTH CLUBS

Leicester City started the Championship season with uncertainty after being relegated from the Premier League. They face potential point deductions and have not made many significant signings. Faes is important for their defense, even as rumors continue about his future. Besiktas, who finished fourth in the last Super Lig season, want to challenge for the Turkish title and do well in European competitions. Faes, who has played in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and England, could provide experience and leadership at the back. Besiktas previously signed Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi, and adding Faes would strengthen their team.

LOOKING AHEAD: WHAT COULD HAPPEN NEXT?

Besiktas play their next Süper Lig match against Adana Demirspor, sitting fourth in the standings, two points behind Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Leicester City, placed in mid-table after two Championship games, face Queens Park Rangers in their next fixture. Both clubs have much at stake. Leicester want to keep key players to push for promotion, but a potential offer from Besiktas could tempt Faes to move before the transfer deadline. Joining Besiktas in Istanbul could also help Faes secure a spot in Belgium’s 2026 World Cup squad. The situation remains uncertain as both clubs aim to meet their objectives in the evolving season and transfer market.
