Tottenham Stun Manchester City to Stay Perfect with 2-0 Win at the Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur continued their great start to the Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Manchester City. This gave them two wins from two matches, confirming their position at the top of the table as their new manager Thomas Frank aims for a stronger showing this season.

HOW TOTTENHAM TOPPLED THE CHAMPIONS

Tottenham played well at the Etihad Stadium, using speed and energy to trouble Manchester City and earn an important win. Brennan Johnson scored the opening goal, finishing off a swift counter-attack. He converted a move that started deep in Spurs’ own half to break the deadlock in the 35th minute. João Palhinha made it 2-0 just before half-time, capitalizing on a misplaced pass from City goalkeeper James Trafford. Despite some pressure from City in the second half, Spurs held firm to clinch all three points and another clean sheet.

SPURS’ RISING MOMENTUM UNDER THOMAS FRANK

This result makes it two wins from two games for the visitors, following last weekend’s season-opening victory over Burnley when Tottenham began the season with a 3-0 win. The impressive performance at Manchester City, meanwhile, is reminiscent of their October 2026 win here last season, when Spurs won by the same scoreline and the goals were scored by Johnson and Palhinha.

For Manchester City, this is a first defeat of the new campaign, leaving them on three points from their two games after winning their opener by 4-0 at Wolves. Pep Guardiola’s side will head into Sunday’s game against Newcastle United looking for a response to this setback.

WHAT COMES NEXT IN THE TITLE RACE

Manchester City must regroup before facing Newcastle next weekend. Tottenham have a London derby against Brighton to look forward to on Sunday, August 29. The game kicks off at the Amex Arena at 4:30pm.
