Smith Rowe’s Late Goal Earns Fulham a Point Against Manchester United
Emile Smith Rowe scored a last-gasp equaliser to salvage a point for Fulham as they drew 1-1 with Manchester United in a Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Bruno Fernandes missed an important penalty in the first half before substitute Smith Rowe ensured Fulham came from behind to earn a well-deserved draw.
A cautious start meant there was little to separate the two teams in the first half, although Fernandes won United a penalty, which he then fired against the crossbar.
After the break, United came out on the front foot and eventually took the lead after Yoro headed in a corner which struck Muniz’s shoulder before going in.
That appeared to be enough to secure the visitors all three points until some great work from Iwobi down the left led to Smith Rowe volleying in an equaliser deep into stoppage time.
FULHAM’S SEASON SO FAR
This result means Fulham stay unbeaten after two matches in the Premier League 2025-26 campaign, building on their confidence from a recent meeting with Brighton and a 96th minute equaliser. The Cottagers showed attacking intent, coming close through Matheus Cunha who hit the woodwork. Smith Rowe’s performance off the bench, scoring his first goal for Fulham, stands out. Fulham are aiming for European qualification after finishing mid-table last season, and they currently sit mid-table. Their next fixture is against Chelsea, who beat West Ham 5-1 earlier this weekend, who currently hold a top-six spot, providing another test for manager Marco Silva’s squad. Fulham are also in advanced talks to sign Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk.
WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED AND FULHAM?
Manchester United will look to regroup after their early-season stumbles. They won one point from their two opening matches, highlighting how close the standings are. Ruben Amorim’s squad will next face Burnley, who won their second match of the season against Sunderland. For Fulham, the focus turns to the Chelsea match, where they hope Smith Rowe can continue his impact. With both sides aiming for a spot in the top half, every goal and every point could prove vital as the season moves on.
