Porto Stand Firm on Rodrigo Mora as Al Ittihad Fall Short with €63m Bid

FC Porto have rejected a €63 million offer plus 10% economic rights for star Rodrigo Mora from Al Ittihad, holding out for full payment of the €70 million release clause as confirmed in previous reports. Rodrigo Mora has a €70 million release clause in his contract until 2030.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Al Ittihad made a major attempt to sign Mora, offering €63 million and a share of future economic rights. But Porto refused to consider any deal below the €70 million release clause in the player’s contract. Mora, at 18, is one of Europe’s most sought-after talents. Several top clubs have expressed interest in him. Porto remains determined to keep their promising forward unless a club triggers the full clause. Just €7 million separated the sides, making it a frustrating narrow miss for Al Ittihad. This interest is part of Al Ittihad’s broader strategy to strengthen their squad for the Saudi Pro League season, as they are reportedly considering various alternatives, including Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United.

MORA AND PORTO: THIS SEASON’S PROGRESS

Rodrigo Mora has made his mark at Porto last season, registering six goals and three assists in 22 league matches. Despite his age, he is already a key part of the squad. Porto currently sit top in the Primeira Liga table, with three wins in three matches along with Sporting and Benfica. The next fixture is against Sporting, who are the current champions and also have a perfect record so far this season, making a win crucial for Porto’s push for the Champions League places. Mora is critical as Porto look to close the gap on the teams above them. Last season, Mora scored six goals and had three assists in 25 matches for Porto, affirming his importance to the team’s ambitions.

WHAT NEXT FOR AL ITTIHAD AND PORTO?

With Porto refusing all offers below €70 million, Al Ittihad has reportedly turned their attention to other targets, including Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United. With the transfer window nearing its end, no agreement looks likely unless Al Ittihad matches the release clause. For Porto, holding onto Mora gives them a continued edge in their race for the top three and improves upon their third-place finish last season. The club was also holding talks for new signings; they recently announced the signing of Jan Bednarek from Southampton for a transfer fee of €7.5 million. FC Porto also recently signed experienced Dutch striker Luuk de Jong, aiming to further strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
