Ladislav Krejci Set for Wolverhampton Move in Major €35m Deal

Ladislav Krejci is about to become Wolverhampton Wanderers’ new player this week. Wolves have agreed a transfer fee of about €35 million with Girona for the Czech defender. The centre-back will offer defensive strength and a goal threat to the Premier League club according to recent reports.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Wolves and Girona have a verbal agreement in place for Krejci. Only the legal side of the transfer is left. Krejci, a left-footed centre-back, featured in 38 matches for Girona after joining from Sparta Prague. He impressed in La Liga as a goal-scoring defender, with reports confirming that he contributed significantly to Girona’s defensive efforts, scoring three goals and providing two assists last season. This success led to Wolves’ interest, as they offered €35 million for him, which is more than twice the €12 million Girona paid a year ago when they signed Krejci. The club, on the whole, need money and view the move as necessary to ensure funds to reinforce their squad before the transfer window closes.

KREJCI’S SEASON AND WHAT HE BRINGS

Krejci has established himself as a top-level defender. His breakout season saw him emerge as a major goal-scoring threat, thanks to his aerial strength. He can also play as a holding midfielder if needed. Krejci played a big role in Girona finishing sixteenth in La Liga last season, but they had to sell him to raise funds amid financial problems after their relegation struggles. Wolves, meanwhile, are looking to finish in the Premier League‘s top 10 at least after missing out last season and see one of the best young defenders in the world in Krejci, who can boost coach Vitor Pereira’s options. Girona have already suffered this transfer window after losing star left-back Miguel Gutiérrez to Napoli.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR WOLVES AND GIRONA?

The transfer is only subject to work permit, medical, and final paperwork, after which Krejci will become a Wolves player. The defender is not expected to be available for Wolves’ next Premier League match against Everton next weekend but could make his debut in the next game.
