WHAT HAPPENED?

Aston Villa tried to sign Canvot, a talented 19-year-old defender from Toulouse, but their first offer was turned down. The Ligue 1 club wants €20 million for him.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also interested in the young French talent. The Premier League side want to beat Villa to the player and take Canvot to Selhurst Park. Palace are yet to make a formal offer for the player.

Canvot’s current contract with Toulouse runs until 2029, meaning there’s no pressure on the club to sell him. The French outfit are in no hurry. They will only let him leave if their price tag is met.

Last season, Canvot made 18 appearances in Ligue 1, helping Toulouse keep two clean sheets, with the club finishing in ninth position in the league.

The 19-year-old won 50% of his duels in the air, and after showing his ability to play across the backline, the Frenchman built a reputation as a “colossus and quiet strength.”

In the new season, it seems like Toulouse have taken a step forward. They have won their two opening matches, and are top of the Ligue 1 along with three other teams. Canvot has played all 180 minutes of league football so far, although he has yet to shut out any opponents.
