Jan Ziolkowski to Join AS Roma From Legia Warsaw
Jan Ziolkowski is set to join AS Roma. The talented Polish defender is moving from Legia Warsaw after making a strong impression throughout the season.
WHAT HAPPENED?
AS Roma have completed a deal with Legia Warsaw for 20-year-old center back Jan Ziolkowski. He caught the eye of many clubs in Europe this summer, having recently made over 30 appearances for Legia Warsaw and scoring once, while assisting twice. Despite interest from Germany and elsewhere, Ziolkowski chose the Italian club. Roma will pay €6.6 million, with Legia receiving 10% of any future sale. Ziolkowski will arrive in Rome by the end of the week and sign a contract until 2030, which is confirmed by previous reports. He played his last game for Legia on Thursday before completing his move to Serie A.
WHY ROMA WANTED ZIOLKOWSKI
AS Roma are strengthening their defense after a solid start to the 2025/26 season. They finished fifth last season with 69 points, just two points away from Champions League qualification, and qualified for the Europa League but struggled defensively, conceding 49 goals. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is prioritizing defensive stability. Ziolkowski is seen as one of Poland’s best young defenders, known for his physical play and maturity. He played 32 games for Legia last season, helping them finish fifth in the Ekstraklasa, and scored two goals with one assist.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR ROMA AND ZIOLKOWSKI?
AS Roma started their season with a big Serie A match against Bologna, having won 1-0, and will be facing newly promoted Pisa next. Pisa drew against title contenders Atalanta for a very positive start to their campaign. Roma will try to quickly integrate Ziolkowski into the squad as they prepare for a busy schedule with Serie A and Europa League group matches. Fans will be eager to see if the Polish defender can quickly help Roma achieve the defensive strength they’ve been missing in recent years.
