Lucas Vázquez Signs Two-Year Deal with Bayer Leverkusen

Lucas Vázquez has signed a two-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen. He joins the German club for free after leaving Real Madrid this summer, as confirmed by recent reports.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 34-year-old Spanish right-back completed his medical in Germany. He signed a deal until June 2027. Vázquez joins as a free agent after his contract with Real Madrid ended on June 30, 2025 (source). He played in 32 La Liga matches last season, scoring one goal and providing five assists. Leverkusen quickly moved to sign Vázquez after talks with Jonathan Clauss from OGC Nice fell through. Vázquez is expected to play as a right wing-back in Erik ten Hag’s 3-4-2-1 formation. The team needed depth in that position after Jeremie Frimpong moved to Liverpool and Nathan Tella showed reluctance to play wide right regularly.

Vázquez offers experience from 17 seasons at Real Madrid. He won five Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, and three FIFA Club World Cups. His arrival comes as Bayer Leverkusen seeks improvement after a poor start to the Bundesliga season, having lost its first game to Hoffenheim, as reported recently (source). Leverkusen finished second in the last Bundesliga season, thirteen points from winning the title. They seek solutions to compete with Bayern Munich.
