Alexander Isak Firm on Liverpool Move as Transfer Deadline Approaches

Alexander Isak is still hoping to join Liverpool. He has told Newcastle United he wants to move before the summer transfer window closes. According to recent reports, Isak has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool before the deadline.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle officials met Isak at his home to ask him to stay. They even offered him a new contract, but Isak has stated that his time with Newcastle United is over due to lost trust and broken promises. He has three years left on his contract, and Newcastle don’t want to sell him. Isak told the club he still wants to join Liverpool, who previously had a significant bid rejected. Newcastle are asking for a £150m fee for Isak, and they are struggling to find replacements after Callum Wilson’s exit. Despite all of this, Isak has reiterated his desire to leave before the transfer deadline.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Isak was Newcastle’s best player last season, scoring 27 goals in 40 matches across all competitions, which significantly contributed to Newcastle finishing fifth in the Premier League and securing European football for the second consecutive year. The Tynesiders have had a tricky start to the current campaign, however, with mixed results from their first two matches, placing them in the bottom half with one point from two matches. Liverpool have spent more than £290m this summer after selling several first-team stars and have identified Isak as a key player to lead their attack as they attempt to reclaim a top position in the Premier League after winning the title last season.

WHAT NEXT FOR ISAK, NEWCASTLE AND LIVERPOOL?

Liverpool’s next Premier League match is at home against Arsenal who sit in the top of the league with two wins in two matches. Liverpool are keen to create a gap to Arsenal and Tottenham, the two other teams to have a 100% winning record so far this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle visit Leeds United, who are just above them in the league, in what promises to be a significant early test for both sides. With less than a week to go before the transfer window closes, speculation will increase if Newcastle and Liverpool do not reach an agreement about Isak following these fixtures.
