Edon Zhegrova Reaches Personal Terms With Juventus As Transfer Drama Unfolds
Edon Zhegrova has agreed on personal terms with Juventus, but the final deal relies on Juventus selling Nico González as Atlético Madrid steps up efforts to sign the Spanish midfielder. According to reports, Juventus need to sell Nico González before they can sign Edon Zhegrova, which adds complexity to the negotiations.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Juventus are in talks with Lille to sign Edon Zhegrova as they look to refresh their squad.
The Kosovan winger has already agreed on contract terms with the Turin club. However, the move depends on the sale of Nico González, with Atlético Madrid pushing to close a deal for the midfielder.
Atleti still need an agreement with Juventus and official registration approval before any move can happen, but the Bianconeri’s transfer priorities are now clear.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Lille coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed before the trip to Lorient – which was called off due to bad weather – that the club were open to negotiations, strengthening Juventus’ chances of completing Zhegrova’s signing before the transfer window closes on Friday night. Lille hopes to cash in now to avoid losing Edon Zhegrova for free next year, as he has rejected a renewal with Lille.
The 26-year-old has opened the new Ligue 1 campaign with one assist in three appearances. Nevertheless, he is coming off one of his best seasons in France, scoring eight goals and laying on six assists in 32 league outings as Lille finished fourth and secured a return to the Champions League group stage.
Jonathan David left Lille to join Juventus after his contract ended, adding further attacking prowess to the squad. Juve’s need for an extra striker has been highlighted by their poor start to the campaign, finishing fourth in Serie A last season and looking to improve.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Juventus currently sits at the top in Serie A, as they prepare for today’s match with Genoa who could put them two wins in two matches in the campaign. They claimed a somewhat fortunate 2-0 win to Parma on the opening day, and will have a difficult trip today as they aim for the three points.
Zhegrova should provide a further threat down the flanks as Juve try to climb the table. Up next for the Old Lady is a clash with Genoa on Sunday, while Lille beat Lorient 7-1 and will take on Toulouse after the international break.
