Liverpool Set for Huge Double Move as Isak Transfer Breaks Records
Liverpool are close to signing Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi before the summer transfer deadline. They have already agreed on a deal with Newcastle for Isak, and they are still negotiating with Crystal Palace for Guehi. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez may leave Liverpool for AC Milan if he agrees to the switch.
LIVERPOOL STRIKE RECORD DEAL FOR ALEXANDER ISAK
Liverpool and Newcastle have agreed on a £125 million deal that will soon make Alexander Isak the most expensive signing in the Premier League’s history, outdoing Moisés Caicedo’s move earlier this summer. The 25-year-old Swedish international, who had requested to leave, did not feature in any of Newcastle’s matches this season as he opted to skip their preseason tour due to a minor thigh injury and is currently training separately. He is expected to undergo a medical with Liverpool soon and complete the move before the transfer window ends on Monday. Negotiations for Palace’s centre-back Guehi continue as well, and Liverpool are hoping to sign both of them before the deadline.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR LIVERPOOL AND THE PREMIER LEAGUE
The defending champions have been searching for a top-class striker all summer. Following their title win last season, top forwards Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz all left the club over the summer. Isak’s signing will add firepower to their attack as they prepare to defend their crown. The club finished their purchase of Bayer Leverkusen man Florian Wirtz for £100m earlier in the window as well, who should boost their attacking options once he returns from his injury. Should Liverpool complete his signing, Guehi would bring extra depth to Liverpool’s defence, that could allow Joe Gomez to leave for Milan after falling towards the bottom of the pecking order since last season. However, Newcastle will have to replace their best striker who scored 27 goals across all competitions last season, including 23 in the Premier League, to help them finish fifth, and qualify for this season’s Champions League.
BIG WEEK AHEAD FOR ALL TEAMS INVOLVED
Title chasers Liverpool will face Burnley in their next game, which is a must-win if they wish to keep up at the top of the standings. Premier League clubs Newcastle and Palace will also look to boost their league campaigns in the coming week. On the other hand, Milan, who had a disappointing start to the campaign after missing European qualification last season, will want to bring on Gomez and strengthen the squad.
