Chelsea Recall Marc Guiu from Sunderland Loan as Injury Crisis Deepens

Chelsea have brought Marc Guiu back from his loan at Sunderland. The decision was made on deadline day. The recall is immediate and comes at a key time for the club.

WHAT TRIGGERED THE RECALL?

Chelsea recalled Guiu after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury against Fulham. Delap could be out for six to eight weeks, possibly longer. Chelsea needed a quick solution up front. Guiu had recently joined Sunderland and made only two league appearances. The club acted fast to end his loan and bring him back for extra help in attack, as they are currently dealing with injuries to other strikers including Cole Palmer.

CHELSEA AND GUIU’S IMPACT THIS SEASON

Marc Guiu joined Chelsea in 2024 from Spain. He has already won the UEFA Conference League and was part of the FIFA Club World Cup-winning squad in 2025. Sunderland, where Guiu was on loan, are in the top-6 in the Premier League with two wins from three matches. Chelsea are also near the top in the Premier League, sitting 2nd, two points behind Liverpool. Recent reports confirm that Chelsea started the season with big hopes after signing Liam Delap, but they are now looking to add depth to the squad following a busy transfer window.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CHELSEA AND GUIU?

Chelsea play Brentford next in the Premier League. Both teams are after a European place, with Brentford rebuilding after a summer of a lot of changes. Chelsea’s attack is thin, with Delap out and Nicolas Jackson’s future uncertain after his loan to Bayern Munich fell through, as confirmed by various sources. Guiu returns as a key option for head coach Enzo Maresca. Fans hope he can make a difference as the team deals with injuries and a busy schedule.
