Yoane Wissa Set For £55m Move To Newcastle United

Newcastle United have agreed to pay Brentford £55 million for striker Yoane Wissa. Wissa will have a medical with the club later today and is set to replace Alexander Isak.

TRANSFER AGREED IN DEADLINE DRAMA

With the transfer window closing at 7pm tonight, Newcastle United wasted no time in signing Yoane Wissa after selling their star striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a record fee. Reports confirm that Newcastle rejected a £25 million bid for Wissa earlier, which shows the lengths they went through to secure him. After weeks of negotiations and several bids rejected, Brentford have now accepted Newcastle’s formal proposal for Wissa. The forward himself has made it clear that he wants to leave Brentford, having urged the club to honour their promise to let him move in 2025 after four seasons with the Bees. The deal should see Wissa arrive for his medical in Newcastle this afternoon.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR NEWCASTLE AND BRENTFORD

Newcastle’s attack has been forced to change shape since Isak, who scored 21 Premier League goals last season, left. Wissa, who scored 14 goals and had 6 assists last season for Brentford, joins Nick Woltemade, who arrived earlier in this window for a club-record fee of £69.3 million, as confirmed by reports. After falling four spots from their preseason target, Newcastle, yet to win a match in the Premier League and vying for European places, have been looking for fire. Meanwhile, Brentford are sitting 15th after a poor start and must quickly adjust without their leading striker following reports that they backed out of a promise to let Wissa join Newcastle United.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BOTH CLUBS?

Wissa is expected to complete his medical and be unveiled before Newcastle’s next match, a home match against Wolves, who are currently bottom of the table in the standings. This game is expected to be crucial, with Newcastle aiming to close the five-point gap to seventh position while remaining clear of mid-table opponents. Brentford face Chelsea in two weeks and will be relying on their revamped attacking lineup to perform under pressure. All eyes will be on how Newcastle’s newly rebuilt attack performs once the transfer window closes following a dramatic summer of change.
