Facundo Buonanotte Joins Chelsea On Loan From Brighton

Chelsea have signed Argentine midfielder Facundo Buonanotte on a season-long loan from Brighton. He will give manager Enzo Maresca more attacking options.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Facundo Buonanotte, age 20, has joined Chelsea on loan for the 2025/26 season. The move from Brighton has no option to buy, as confirmed by a recent report. He has played twice for Argentina and was on loan at Leicester City last season, where he impressed with five goals and key assists in 31 league appearances during his time at the club. Despite Leicester’s tough campaign, he had seven goal involvements.

Over three years in England, Buonanotte played 71 Premier League matches, scoring nine goals and providing four assists. Chelsea secured the deal on deadline day, hoping he will add creativity and depth as the club competes in several competitions.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea have added another young Argentine to a squad that includes Enzo Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho. Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League last season and are actively seeking versatile attackers to strengthen their squad. Buonanotte’s technical skills could help them compete at a higher level in the Premier League and Europe. Brighton, his parent club, finished eighth last season and will miss Buonanotte’s contributions over the past three years, as they struggled for consistency and goals.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Chelsea’s next match is against Brentford after the international break. Chelsea currently sits in second place in the Premier League, two points behind Liverpool. They are currently looking to maintain their form and climb further up the table as they compete with teams like Tottenham and Arsenal, who are close behind in the standings after a strong start.

Brighton, without Buonanotte, will play Bournemouth next in the league, currently sitting in 11th position and hoping to gain momentum ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
