Haaland Hails Donnarumma After Stunning Manchester Derby Display
Erling Haaland praised Gianluigi Donnarumma after Manchester City’s 3-0 Manchester derby win over United at the Etihad Stadium, and suggested the goalkeeper deserved the Man of the Match award ahead of his own brace.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Italian produced several outstanding saves as City returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats. The pressure is now firmly on United manager Ruben Amorim after his side failed to build on last week’s win against Burnley and were outfought by their fierce rivals.
WHAT HAALAND SAID
Haaland was delighted to get back among the goals but after the game, he made sure to shine a light on Donnarumma‘s heroics. He told Sky Sports: “Don’t forget about Donnarumma… unbelievable today. I might give him my Man of the Match award, he was fantastic!”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
A fifth goal of the season took Haaland back to the top of the Premier League scoring charts in an action-packed match.
City broke the deadlock through Phil Foden’s third goal of the season, before Haaland scored twice after the break. United’s best opportunity came in the second half when Mbeumo forced two excellent saves from Donnarumma in the same move.
Ex-AC Milan man Donnarumma – who is now the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester City as praised for his strength and presence since signing from PSG.
WHAT NEXT
City’s victory lifts them up to the top-half while United drop to 13th in the table. Pep Guardiola’s side host Napoli for the Champions League before visiting the Emirates to face Arsenal next weekend, while Amorim must prepare his side for Chelsea’s visit to Old Trafford next weekend.
