Alexander Isak Impresses Slot with Fitness but Not Ready for Intense Schedule

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has given a positive update on Alexander Isak’s fitness, saying the Swedish striker looked in better shape than expected. However, Slot warned that Isak is not yet ready to handle three matches a week for the Reds.

WHAT HAPPENED?

During a press conference, Slot addressed Isak’s recent training sessions and his possible involvement in upcoming games. Slot stated, “Isak seemed to be quite fit to me. That was the most positive thing. He was fitter than I expected… but he’s not ready for three games a week yet.” Isak had a lack of preseason training with Newcastle before joining Liverpool, and Slot has been clear that the club must be cautious with his recovery and workload. He emphasized that fans and coaches should not expect Isak to play the full 90 minutes every week just yet. Additionally, Slot confirmed that Isak was left out of the squad as a tactical move to improve his fitness, rather than due to injury.

LIVERPOOL’S SEASON SO FAR

Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to their Premier League campaign, currently top in the table with 12 points from four matches, ahead of any other team by at least three points. Isak, who recently joined Liverpool for a British-record £125 million, has yet to make his debut for the club as he continues to build his match fitness. According to reports, Isak is expected to return for the midweek UEFA Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, which could mark his first appearance for the team.

WHAT NEXT FOR ISAK AND LIVERPOOL?

Slot is expected to gradually increase Isak’s playing time, starting with substitute appearances before moving towards a starting role. Liverpool face a busy schedule, with crucial Premier League games coming up and the Champions League matches. Isak’s return to full fitness could provide Liverpool with extra firepower up front, but the coaching staff will monitor his minutes carefully. As Liverpool prepares for their next opponents, Everton, who are in 6th place, this may offer Slot a chance to give Isak his first minutes in a Liverpool shirt.
