WHAT HAPPENED?

Gyökeres received the Gerd Müller Trophy at the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris. This award goes to the highest-scoring striker in Europe, considering goals for both club and country. Gyökeres impressed everyone with 39 goals last season. He started at Sporting CP and then moved to Arsenal this summer, joining the team as their new main forward. Gyökeres scored more goals than famous players like Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane.

GYÖKERES’ SEASON AND IMPACT

In the 2024/25 season, Gyökeres was a key player for Sporting CP, scoring 39 goals in all competitions. He led their attack, helping Sporting finish first in the Primeira Liga, just ahead of Benfica, and win the Portuguese Cup as well. After he joined Arsenal in July 2025 for €63 million, Gyökeres quickly fit into Premier League football. He has already scored six goals in nine games, including a standout performance where he netted two goals in a 5-0 win over Leeds according to recent reports. Arsenal is currently third in the league, five points behind leaders Liverpool and level on points with Tottenham and Bournemouth. His performances have kept Arsenal in the Champions League spots, and fans believe he can help them challenge for the title.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GYÖKERES AND ARSENAL?

Arsenal’s next league game is against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Newcastle is ninth, but still a strong opponent, just four points away from the top six. Arsenal wants to catch up with Liverpool, who play Crystal Palace this weekend. Gyökeres is expected to start and will try to keep his scoring streak going. If Arsenal wins, they could join the top if City drops points. Furthermore, Arsenal returns to Champions League play next week against Olympiacos, the Greek Super League leaders. All eyes are on Gyökeres as he aims to build on his trophy win and help Arsenal fight for major trophies this season.
